Is Rashnova safe? Is it spyware?
Rashnova is a free recorder for your own Windows PC, made by Alcyone Secure in India. It records activity, such as which files were opened, which programs ran, sign ins and USB devices, and keeps that record on your computer, where the company that makes it cannot read it. It never records your screen, keystrokes, passwords, messages or what is inside your files. It is not spyware: it is built for the owner of the device, it asks before always on recording starts, it tells you to let other people who use the computer know, and turning it off never needs a PIN. Windows shows a warning when you install it because the installer is not code signed yet; you can check the file against the SHA-256 published on the download page.
What it records, and where it goes
It records that things happened: a file opened, a program started, a USB drive plugged in and files copied to it, a sign in, a restart. The record stays on your PC. Nothing from it is uploaded; the app makes only two small requests, a daily check for a newer version and a time check during a Repair session, and neither carries anything from your record.
Why Windows warns you when you install it
Windows SmartScreen warns about any installer that is not signed with a code signing certificate, whatever the software does. Alcyone Secure does not have a certificate yet. To continue, choose More info, then Run anyway. Before you do, you can compare the file's SHA-256 with the value on the download page to confirm it is the file that was published.
What it is not
It is not antivirus and does not replace it. It is not a tool for watching other people: its terms forbid using it to monitor a partner, a family member or anyone without a lawful basis. It does not prevent a technician from working on your laptop; it makes what they did visible.
Who makes it
Alcyone Secure, a cybersecurity company founded in India in 2025 by Sathvik R. The product was called Black Box before it was renamed Rashnova in 2026. Its known limits, including what it cannot do yet, are published in full on the company's website.
